| | A friend of mine who was leaving for the Middle East asked me to do an on-site shoot at Intramuros. Here are some samples. Used were an 18-200mmVR on a D40, and a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 "portrait macro" on a D80. Pics where the subject is sharp and the background is blurry were taken with the Tamron, glass that is highly recommended.
An unpleasant sidelight of this shoot was a verbal dispute i had with a security guard and his equally arrogant supervisor ("head of detachment" daw sya). They appear to have this policy to "protect a historical site" by prohibiting photo shoots in Intramuros FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES unless with a permit. After i had explained that the photos were for personal consumption and that i was not a professional photographer nor part of any media outfit (!), the guard insisted that what we did (with a 'change costume') was not allowed by their rules. Now, i admire the guy for his diligence in his work, but he should have been satisfied with our explanation after we made it known that the pictures were not for commercial purposes (geez, i even had to tell him that i was a lawyer by profession!).
Unless you guys want to have the same unpleasant experience in the hands of people on a 'power trip', just bring along a point-and-shoot when you're in Intramuros. |
